这套双CD专辑收录了Decca歌剧录音中最精彩最动听的四十首精萃、四百年歌剧的精华，皆由世界一流艺术家演唱，帕瓦罗蒂、萨瑟兰、曹秀美、卡芭耶、巴特尔、弗蕾妮、毕约林等名家演唱最热门的咏叹调，弥足珍贵的录音。

由于Decca是世上最大古典音乐唱片公司之一，几十年来灌录了无数歌剧，它辑录的歌剧精选将最精彩的唱段绝无遗漏、一网打尽了，而且Decca上世纪五十至七十年代的歌剧录音有很多是公认的天碟制作（包括瓦格纳的《指环》全集，卡拉扬指挥的《波希米亚人》和《蝴蝶夫人》，以及梅塔指挥的《图兰朵》等），这套专辑音效之佳与可听性之高已经毋容置疑。
